Rio 2016 Summer Olympics

The 31th modern Olympic Games held in the most famous metropolis on the Brazilian coast, Rio de Janeiro. These Olympics start at August 5th and close at August 21, 2016. It is winter in the southern hemisphere, so hopefully not too hot (although it is close to the equator and it's about 24 degrees on average in August). It will be difficult to match the splendid ceremonies of London or to beat, but after Beijing in 2008 we thought that was not possible.

About Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro, or Rio in short, is a city with 6.3 million inhabitants (The agglomeration has a total of about 12 million people), the largest in South America and was founded on March 1, 1565 by the Portuguese ruler. To this day, Portuguese is also the national language of Brazil. It was the capital of Brazil until 1960 and is the most visited city in the Southern Hemisphere. It is known for its statue of Jesus (Cristo Redentor) that overlooks the whole of Rio, the world-famous Copacabana beach on which the triathlon and beach volley will take place and, of course, the most exuberant carnival in the world. Rio has a warm climate, because it is close to the equator and therefore does not really have seasons like in Europe. Not every athlete will appreciate that, but the rain in London was not everything we shall say.
